After receiving a recommendation for The Ridge Bar and Grill in Chicago Ridge, we decided to make the 30-to-40-minute drive, and it was worth every mile. The interior leans into a classic, welcoming bar vibe—this is a true neighborhood bar that happens to serve incredible food, rather than a restaurant with a bar. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by Kate. She immediately treated us like regulars who had been coming in for years. After telling her it was our first visit, she sat us down and recommended the Southwest Eggrolls, which absolutely did not disappoint. We also ordered the Garlic Parmesan boneless wings; they were incredibly tasty, delightfully messy, and thankfully served with plenty of napkins. For our mains, we ordered the Ridge Burger, the Frisco Melt, and the Mushroom Swiss (to which I added bacon and this was REAL bacon, not that fast food bacon) for $17 each. The menu notes that the patties are a premium blend of chuck, brisket, and short rib, which translates to an incredibly juicy and flavorful burger. As someone whose biggest pet peeve is an untoasted bun, I was thrilled to find that The Ridge grills theirs to perfection. Each burger was a standout in its own right. For sides, we added the fries, tater tots, and sweet potato fries ($3.00 each). The tater tots were the absolute star of the show, followed closely by the fries (Kate even agreed that the tots are her personal favorite!). Huge thanks to Kate for the warm hospitality and great recommendations.
